Hogwarts Legacy offers a multitude of exciting treasures and collectibles, most of which are tucked away in treasure chests. While opening these chests is usually a breeze, one particular chest poses a greater challenge. The house chest is tantalizingly presented to you early on in the game, but alas, you won’t be able to crack it open right away. In fact, to unlock it, you must first locate 16 elusive Daedalian Keys. As if that wasn’t enough, this game adds a magical twist to the hunt. But fear not, my friend! I’m here to save your wand from snapping in two by providing you with all the Daedalian Key locations in Hogwarts Legacy, along with the key to finally unlock your house chest.
How to Embark on the Daedalian Key Quest
To begin your thrilling quest for the keys, venture outside and seek out a student named Nellie Oggspire in the Transfiguration Courtyard. Nellie will regale you with tales of winged keys fluttering about the area, and she’ll even divulge the location of the first key to help you get started. As you find each key, they will lead you to a special cabinet where you’ll embark on a mini-game. The goal of this mini-game is to “slap” the key as it soars directly over the keyhole, thereby unlocking the cabinet. Don’t fret about failing; you can attempt it as many times as you need. Once you successfully seize the key, the cabinet will open and bestow upon you a House Token.
Locating the Daedalian Keys
In total, there are 16 Daedalian Keys that you must track down to complete this quest. However, please note that three of these keys can only be obtained once you have unlocked the Alohomora spell by completing “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament” quest. I will identify these specific keys for you, so you’ll know to acquire them only after obtaining the spell. The following are the key locations themselves. Remember, you must follow each key to its corresponding cabinet and conquer the timing mini-game to collect the House Tokens you seek.
- Astronomy Wing: The first key is conspicuously marked for you next to the Floo Flame in this area.
- Central Hall: Head to the north corner near the entrance to the greenhouse to retrieve the key.
- Defense Against the Dark Arts Tower: This key lurks near the rhinoceros skeleton in the tower.
- Transfiguration Classroom: From the Transfiguration Classroom Floo Flame, turn around and enter the North Hall. You’ll find the key directly ahead, close to the History of Magic Classroom.
- Transfiguration Classroom (continued): From the previous location, turn around and proceed through the double doors, descending the staircase to the very bottom. The key awaits you next to a slumbering dragon.
- Entrance Hall: Look no further than the top of the stairs in the Entrance Hall for this easily attainable key.
- Grand Staircase: While ascending the stairs, keep an eye out for a key swiftly flying past you in the opposite direction. Chase after it and seize it as it descends the stairs.
- Great Hall: Pay a visit to the fireplace in the Great Hall to retrieve this conveniently located key.
- Library Annex: Spot the floating key near the closest bookcase to the Floo Flame in the Library Annex.
- Transfiguration Courtyard: As you enter the North Hall from the Transfiguration Courtyard, you’ll find this key near a prominent globe.
- Potions Classroom: Zip over to the Potions Classroom and snatch this key, which is perched at the top of the stairs just inside.
- Quad Courtyard: From the Floo Flame, make your way past the fountain with a serpent statue and proceed through a grand arch. As you follow the key, you’ll find yourself descending a flight of stairs.
- Viaduct: Upon entering the Viaduct area, take a left turn. The key awaits you under the staircase.
- Clock Tower (Alohomora required): From the Crossing Wands area, ascend the stairs and turn left. At the end of this hallway, you’ll discover the key.
- Clock Tower (Alohomora required): Ascend to the very top of the Clock Tower, where you’ll find the entrance to the Faculty Tower. Track the key as it leads you into the Hospital Wing.
- Faculty Tower (Alohomora required): Commencing our final endeavor in the Faculty Tower, simply ascend the stairs to find the key, which will then guide you back down the way you came.
Keys requiring Alohomora
The last three keys can be found in areas that necessitate the use of the lockpicking spell Alohomora to gain access.
- Clock Tower: Enter the Clock Tower from the Crossing Wands area and ascend the stairs. Take the left path, and at the end of the hallway, the key will await you.
- Clock Tower (continued): This time, proceed all the way to the top of the Clock Tower and locate the entrance to the Faculty Tower. Follow the key as it ventures into the Hospital Wing.
- Faculty Tower (continued): To conclude our adventure in the Faculty Tower, ascend the stairs, starting your journey back down the way you came.
Unlocking the House Chest
After successfully retrieving all 16 keys and collecting the corresponding House Tokens, you can finally unlock the House Chest in your common room. Behold, within lies a special piece of gear known as the Relic House Uniform. The appearance of this outfit varies depending on which of the four houses you belong to. Not only does this uniform look splendid, but it also showcases different spell-casting effects as it radiates with an ethereal glow. It is worth noting that the Relic House Uniform is considered a collection piece, so you can apply its appearance to any other gear you desire.
Once you don your exquisite new robe, don’t forget to report back to Nellie to complete the quest and claim your well-deserved XP rewards.
