Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera Disappoints Fans with Stripped-Down Experience

After nearly two weeks of being offline, the original Call of Duty: Warzone has returned as Warzone Caldera. However, the relaunched version of the beloved game falls short of expectations. With only access to the Caldera map and the standard battle royale mode, the stripped-down package is a letdown for players. Let’s take a closer look at what’s missing from this highly anticipated release.

No Resurgence maps

One of the biggest flaws of Caldera is the absence of the popular Resurgence maps: Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep. Resurgence mode was perfect for players with limited time, offering shorter matches and allowing respawns. Unfortunately, this mode is nowhere to be found in any version of Warzone, leaving Resurgence players disappointed.

Limited playlists

In Warzone Caldera, the available mode is battle royale on the Caldera map, which was introduced alongside Call of Duty: Vanguard. However, players are limited to only two playlists: Solos and Quads. This means that Duos and Trios players are left out, making Caldera less appealing. It’s as if Activision doesn’t want players to enjoy this game and instead wants them to switch to Warzone 2.0. Even in Warzone 2.0, a standard Trios mode is absent, with only a third-person version or “Unhinged” available, which might not appeal to everyone.

No Plunder mode

Another missing feature in Caldera is the popular Plunder mode. This mode resembled team deathmatch, focusing on collecting cash. It was a more casual experience, perfect for exploring the map and having fun with friends. Unfortunately, Plunder mode is no longer playable in Caldera or Warzone 2.0. The closest alternative in Warzone 2.0 is DMZ, but it’s still significantly different. Many players miss the opportunity to enjoy their favorite mode.

A promotional platform for Warzone 2.0

Upon launching Warzone Caldera, players are immediately bombarded with advertisements for Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0. The main hub screen features a prominent ad for the new games, while Warzone Caldera is tucked away beneath the co-op mode. Even within the game, players are continuously exposed to ads for Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare II. It’s clear that Activision wants players to transition to the new game while still keeping the original Warzone alive.

Given the current state of Warzone 2.0 and the disappointing features of Caldera, it’s no wonder that many players have chosen to explore other games. Activision’s approach has made it difficult for players to enjoy Call of Duty at the moment. While it’s understandable to move players forward, ending Warzone with such a lackluster release feels unfitting for one of the most beloved battle royale games ever created.
