Dell made quite an entrance at the IFA 2018 convention in Berlin with a range of exciting new products, including their latest 2-in-1 devices from the Inspiron 7000 and 5000 series. Additionally, they unveiled a brand-new Inspiron 2-in-1 powered by Google’s Chrome OS. All three families boast eighth-generation Intel Core processors, with some models featuring discrete GeForce graphics courtesy of Nvidia.

Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 Series

Let’s start with the three new models: the 7386, a 13.3-inch device, the 7586, a 15.6-inch device, and the 7786, a 17.3-inch device. These models are equipped with Intel’s latest “Whiskey Lake” processors, offering improved performance-per-watt compared to last year’s models. The larger models offer the option of discrete GeForce MX150 graphics, with the 15.6-inch version coming in both 2GB and 4GB models, while the 17.3-inch version provides 2GB of dedicated video memory. The 13.3-inch model, on the other hand, relies solely on the integrated graphics of the Intel CPU. Notable features include options for 3,840 x 2,160 resolution on the 7386 and 7586 models, Intel’s Optane memory, DDR4 system memory clocked at 2,666MHz on the larger models, and a USB-C port across all models. The laptop’s exterior color will vary based on the screen resolution.

Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 Series

Similar to the refreshed 7000 series, the Inspiron 5000 series also features Intel’s new Whiskey Lake processors. However, the Core i3-8145U chip is included in this duo. Visuals are taken care of by the processor’s integrated graphics, but the 5482 model also offers an additional discrete MX130 graphics chip with 2GB of dedicated video memory.

You’ll notice a clear distinction between these two models in terms of their base specifications. The more affordable 5481 model boasts a resolution of 1,366 x 768, supports up to 16GB of system memory, and offers up to 1TB of storage. It has limited connectivity with just one HDMI port, two USB-A ports, one audio combo jack, and an SD card reader. On the other hand, the 5482 version provides a higher resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, includes the option for a discrete GeForce MX130 graphics chip, supports up to 32GB of system memory, and offers up to 2TB of storage. It also comes with an additional USB-A 2.0 port and a USB-C port. Both models come in an Urban Gray exterior, but the 5482 offers a Platinum Silver option as well.

Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1

Finally, Dell introduced their new 2-in-1 Chromebook. This device comes in a single configuration featuring Intel’s Core i3-8130U processor, 4GB of system memory, 128GB of storage, and a 14-inch screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080.

“The system is thoughtfully crafted in aluminum, giving it an expensive look and feel compared to composite materials,” says Dell. “Aluminum feels cooler to the touch than plastic and provides a level of aesthetics that other materials can’t match.”

Dell’s Chromebook comes with an EMR-based stylus that can be conveniently stored in the device. Thanks to the 2-in-1 form factor, this Chromebook can be used in multiple modes, including Laptop, Tent, Stand, and Tablet. It’s also compatible with Android-based Google Play apps, allowing you to transform the Chromebook into a makeshift drawing pad using the included stylus in tablet mode.
