Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut: Unraveling the Enigmatic Winds of Iki Puzzles

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut has brought a myriad of thrilling activities for players to immerse themselves in on Iki Island. While Animal Sanctuaries offer a straightforward experience, the Archery Challenges push players to their limits with a seven-second time constraint. However, the most perplexing obstacles are the enigmatic Winds of Iki puzzles, leaving even the skilled Master Sakai scratching his head. These puzzles are a part of the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends collaboration with previous Sony exclusives, and solving them requires more than just a deep understanding of the game itself. Are you ready to uncover the secrets of the Winds of Iki? Let’s dive in and conquer all three puzzles.

What Exactly are the Winds of Iki Puzzles?

Iki Island is home to three mystical Winds of Iki Shrines, each featuring a cryptic riddle that may initially seem nonsensical even after multiple readings. However, a clue lies within the Puzzle of Ash, offering a possible solution. Could it be that these riddles are actually related to PlayStation exclusive titles and not directly tied to Ghost of Tsushima?

Indeed, they are. Each shrine corresponds to a different PlayStation exclusive game: God of War, Bloodborne, and Shadow of the Colossus. Let’s unravel the mysteries of each shrine and unlock their corresponding armor skins.

Located in the Yahata forest, towards the east of Iki Island, the Shrine of Ash challenges Jin to don his family’s armor and solve the puzzle. The riddle reads:

“In fall, a tree fruits which grows from seed to sapling, a stranger and son. Boy, honor your father’s fight, show him the strength of your blade.”

To conquer this puzzle, simply stand in front of the shrine wearing the Sakai Clan armor, which you should have obtained after beginning Act II of Jin’s Journey. Swipe right on the touchpad to draw your sword, and a short cutscene will unfold. As a reward, you’ll unlock the God of War armor skin for your Sakai Clan Armor. This set is identical to the one worn by the Samurai class in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Fans of God of War quickly picked up on the reference, represented by an orange handprint on a nearby tree with an ax lodged in the trunk.

The Shrine of Shadow: Shadow of the Colossus

In the Buddha’s Footprints region, located at the southern tip of Iki Island, lies the Shrine of Shadows. The riddle reads:

“Stone knows no season, nor the colossus that was felled to save one soul. Wanderer, come like through mist, a ghost casting no shadow.”

To conquer this shrine, stand in front of it wearing the Ghost Armor. If you haven’t unlocked this armor yet, continue Jin’s Journey on Tsushima to obtain it. While wearing the Ghost Armor, toss a smoke bomb at your feet. Watch as another captivating cutscene plays out, and you’ll unlock the Shadow of Colossus skin for your Ghost Armor.

The Blood-Stained Shrine: Bloodborne

Along the southwest coast of Iki Island lies the Blood-Stained Shrine. The riddle reads:

“The first green of spring sickens to black, decaying, plagued by blood and beast. Hunter, reject death’s allure. Prepare to duel man’s frailty.”

Players may have missed the subtle reference to Bloodborne, but fear not. Wear the Kensei Armor, which is obtained from The Six Blades of Kojiro, a Mythic Tale on Tsushima, to tackle this riddle. Then, press down on the D-Pad to replenish your health. Ensure that you have some resolve built up for this to work. If you arrive at the shrine with full health, simply run up one side and jump down towards the base of the shrine, where you found the scroll. The fall will inflict enough damage to hurt but not kill you.
