‘Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne’ Expansion Set to Launch in August

Return to a Warcraft Classic with the Upcoming Expansion Set

Blizzard recently unveiled that the highly-anticipated expansion set for Hearthstone, called Knights of the Frozen Throne, will be launching soon. This new set will introduce 135 brand-new cards to the popular digital card game, immersing players in the iconic Northrend and the Frozen Throne setting from Warcraft history.

Unleash the Power of Death Knights

The Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion will heavily feature Death Knights as one of its headline features. Each class will receive a legendary card that transforms them into a fearsome Death Knight, replacing their usual hero power. For example, Deathstalker Rexxar, a 6-cost hunter card, deals 2 damage to all enemy minions upon play and grants Rexxar five armor. But the real game-changer is its new hero power, known as “Build-a-Beast,” which lets players craft a custom Zombeast by combining the stats, abilities, and costs of two chosen beasts.

Evolve Your Gameplay with New Mechanics

The expansion will also introduce exciting new mechanics. One of them is the prominent presence of the Deathrattle mechanic, tying in perfectly with the undead theme. Cards like the Shallow Gravedigger, a 3-cost neutral minion, will add a random Deathrattle minion to your hand upon its death. Although this card may seem unremarkable on its own, its true potential comes into play when combined with other Deathrattle synergies found within the set.

Another key addition is the Lifesteal keyword ability, which restores the attacking player’s health equal to the damage dealt. Cards like Chillblade Champion, a 4-cost 3/2 Charge/Lifesteal minion for paladin, and Spirit Lash, a 2-cost Lifesteal spell dealing 1 damage to all minions, exemplify this new keyword. Lifesteal spells, in particular, offer interesting strategic opportunities, allowing players to maximize healing potential with spell damage increases.

Single-Player Content and Improved Pack Opening Experience

Knights of the Frozen Throne won’t just provide new cards but also include single-player content reminiscent of past Adventure expansions. Players can anticipate two wings with three boss fights each, as well as a prologue and final boss. Conquering these challenges will reward players with packs of cards from the set. Additionally, completing the prologue will grant a random new hero card, such as the formidable Deathstalker Rexxar.

Blizzard has made changes to pack opening mechanics to ensure a better player experience. Duplicate legendaries will no longer be an issue, and the first ten packs opened from the new set will guarantee a legendary card. This policy shift aims to address player feedback regarding duplicate cards from previous expansions.
