Windows 11 offers a plethora of tools and features, but if you find yourself spending most of your time in a web browser, it’s essential to have quick access to your favorite websites. Luckily, Windows 11 allows you to pin website shortcuts to both the Start menu and the taskbar, making them easily accessible as if they were standalone programs.
Pinning with Google Chrome
Adding a website shortcut to your Windows 11 taskbar using Google Chrome is a simple process. Follow these steps:
- Open the Google Chrome browser and navigate to the desired website.
- Click on the three dots icon in the top right corner to open the menu. Select “More tools.”
- Choose “Create shortcut.” In the dialog box, check the box next to “Open as window” and click “Create.”
Your desired website’s shortcut will now appear on both your taskbar and desktop.
Pinning with Firefox
Unfortunately, Firefox does not have an integrated method for pinning shortcuts to the taskbar like Chrome does. However, there is a workaround. Before we delve into the workaround, keep the following points in mind:
- The Firefox browser shortcut must not already be pinned to your taskbar. If it is, unpin it first.
- Ensure you don’t have any Firefox browser windows open before proceeding.
- You will have to name the new website shortcut manually; it will not be automatically named after the website.
To pin a website shortcut with Firefox on Windows 11, follow these instructions:
- Use the Windows 11 taskbar Search bar to search for Firefox. Right-click on Firefox in the search results.
- Select “Open file location.” A Windows Explorer window will open, displaying the location of the Firefox app. Right-click on Firefox in this window.
- Choose “Show more options” from the menu, then select “Create shortcut” and click “Yes.”
- A new Firefox shortcut will appear on your desktop. Right-click on the icon and select “Properties.”
- In the Firefox properties screen, go to the General tab and rename the shortcut in the text box at the top.
- Move to the Shortcut tab and, in the Target section, navigate to the end of the listed file location. Press the Spacebar once, then enter the URL of your favorite website (e.g., “C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe” https://www.digitaltrends.com/).
- Click “OK.”
- The edited shortcut will now appear on your desktop. Right-click on it, select “Show more options,” and choose “Pin to taskbar.”
Pinning with Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge also allows you to pin websites to your Windows 11 taskbar. Here’s how:
- Open one of your favorite websites in Microsoft Edge.
- Click on the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner.
- From the menu, select “More tools.”
- Choose “Pin to taskbar.”
A shortcut for the website will now appear on your Windows 11 taskbar.
