Character customization has always been a significant aspect of the Souls games, and Elden Ring raises the bar even further. The options for personalizing your character are extensive, allowing you to choose your gender, body type, hairstyle, skin tone, and even the size of your character’s eyes. While some players may think that this level of customization is unnecessary, there is a dedicated community of “fashion souls” enthusiasts who appreciate the ability to craft visually appealing outfits for their characters. Elden Ring provides more opportunities than ever before to showcase your character’s stylish attire.
Altering Your Character’s Appearance
Let’s start with the relatively easier task of changing your character’s physical appearance. If you rushed through the character creator screen and ended up with a less-than-desirable result, don’t worry – you can always make adjustments later. Here’s how:
Step 1: Reach the Roundtable Hold, Elden Ring’s new hub area. Melina, a character you encounter early in the game, will guide you there. Just follow the path shown to you from the first couple of Sites of Grace until Melina appears and offers to take you to the Roundtable Hold.
Step 2: Once you arrive at the Roundtable Hold, head towards the blacksmith by taking the right path from the main table. Inside the side room, you’ll find a bedroom where Fia is located. You can talk to Fia and interact with a mirror, known as the dressing table, in the back-right corner of the room. This mirror will transport you back to the character customization screen.
Changing Armor Appearance
Changing the appearance of your armor requires a bit more effort, but it’s worth it if you want to add some variety to your character’s look. Although the options are limited, this feature allows you to modify your gear’s appearance without sacrificing its stats. To accomplish this, you’ll need two key items: the Tailoring Tools and the Sewing Needle. Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Locate the Costal Cave on the map, which can be found to the west of the Church of Ellah, near the beach. It’s crucial to have a light source, such as a lantern or torch, before entering the cave since it is exceptionally dark.
Step 2: Once inside the cave, you’ll encounter Demi-Human enemies guarding it. Proceed carefully as you make your way through the cave, eventually reaching the boss arena.
Step 3: Defeat the two Demi-Human chiefs in a challenging fight. Summoning the NPC available outside the arena and using spirits like the wolves will help even the odds against these aggressive bosses.
Step 4: After emerging victorious, you’ll be rewarded with both the Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle.
Step 5: From now on, when you visit any Site of Grace, you’ll find a new option called “Alter Garments” at the end of the list. Select this option, choose from your available armor pieces, and you’ll be able to give them a slightly different appearance. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to preview the altered look until you commit to it. However, the cost is reasonable, and if you’re unsatisfied, you can always revert to the default appearance.
With a limited selection of alteration choices and a small rune cost, Elden Ring’s armor customization still provides a welcomed feature to make your character truly unique. So, embrace the opportunity and create a stylish character that will leave a lasting impression on the world.
