You’ve probably heard of Fortnite, one of the biggest games in the world right now. While it’s available on various platforms, including smartphones, tablets, and PCs, you might be wondering how to get it specifically on your PS4. In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to do that.
Getting Fortnite on PS4
Before you start, make sure your PS4 is connected to the internet. You can use Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable for this. Once you’re connected, log in to your PSN account and you’ll be taken to the PS4’s home screen. This screen displays all your apps and games in a horizontal alignment. Now, follow these steps to get Fortnite on your system.
Step 1: Go to the PlayStation Store. From the home screen, scroll all the way to the left and look for the app labeled PlayStation Store. Click on it.
Step 2: Once you’re in the PS Store’s main menu, look for the Search option on the left side of the screen. It’s located to the left of the Cart tab and has a magnifying glass icon next to it.
Step 3: Click on Search and type in “Fortnite.”
Step 4: Fortnite should appear on the right side of the screen. You don’t need to type in the full name. Just click on it.
Step 5: Press X on Fortnite.
Step 6: Fortnite is free to download, so you don’t need to use any credit card or currency. Just press X on Download, and the download process will begin.
Once the download starts, you can press the PS button on your controller to go back to the home screen.
Step 7: Now, you’ll have to wait for the download to finish. Fortunately, Fortnite is not a large file, so it won’t take too long.
Step 8: When the download is complete, the download bar will disappear, and you’ll see the option to Start. Press that, and the game will launch.
How to Launch and Run Fortnite
Once you launch the game, you’ll be taken to Fortnite’s main menu. If you don’t have an Epic account linked to your system, you’ll need to create one and link it to your PS4. For more detailed instructions on how to link your Fortnite Epic account, you can refer to our guide here.
Once you’re logged in, you’ll be presented with three options: Save the World, Battle Royale, and Creative. Most players choose Battle Royale, the online competitive mode that is constantly updated.
Install Size
Fortnite is not a massive file and takes up around 6.69GB on your PS4. However, depending on the hard drive type in your PS4, it might show up as 35GB in the Storage section of the PS4’s Settings menu. Either way, it’s best to have between 7GB and 35GB of free space to be safe.
Assuming you’ve selected Battle Royale, you’ll be taken to the mode’s home screen. Here, you can check your progress, items, and Battle Pass features. You can also launch into a match from this screen. Now you’re all set to start playing Fortnite!
Do You Need PS Plus to Play?
No, you don’t need a PS Plus membership to play Fortnite online. You can start playing right away, as long as you have an internet connection. While PS Plus is usually required for online play, Fortnite is an exception as it is a free game. So, you won’t have to spend any extra money.
V-Bucks
Fortnite does have in-game purchases using a currency called V-Bucks. You can use V-Bucks to buy items from the shop, such as outfits, gliders, emotes, and music. These items are often tied to popular culture, like Marvel and DC. This is how Fortnite generates revenue.
If you’re a parent and want to prevent your child from using this feature, you can disallow the use of credit cards on the PS4. It’s important to be cautious, as some younger gamers have accidentally run up high bills due to easy access to credit card information. If you do decide to spend money on V-Bucks, make sure you have a specific item in mind before making your purchase.
With all this information, you’re ready to dive into the exciting world of Fortnite!
