How to Edit a Zoom Recording for Free Using YouTube

If you’re looking to make simple edits to a Zoom recording, you don’t have to invest in premium video editing software. In fact, you can edit your Zoom recordings for free using YouTube. All you need is a YouTube account and your Zoom video file. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to edit a Zoom recording for free using YouTube.

Step 1: Locate the Zoom recording file on your computer

After recording your video, you’ll need to find the file on your computer. To make editing on YouTube easier, you should know where the videoconferencing software saved your video file. Typically, Zoom will create a folder labeled “Zoom” on your computer to store your videos. Within this folder, you’ll find a sub-folder named after the meeting you recorded the video from. Look for the file labeled “zoom_0”; this is the video file you’ll upload to YouTube.

Step 2: Upload your video to YouTube

Log in to your YouTube account and click the Create icon in the top right corner of your screen. From the menu, select “Upload Video.” On the next screen, click the blue “Select Files” button and choose your Zoom video from your computer’s file explorer.

Step 3: Add details and elements to your video

Once you’ve uploaded your video, you’ll be prompted to fill out information about your video, such as the title and description. Afterward, you’ll have the option to add other elements like cards or an end screen. Simply click “Next” to proceed.

Step 4: Set your video’s visibility and save it

Choose the visibility settings for your video – Public, Unlisted, or Private. If you only want to edit your video without publishing it or making it shareable, select Private. If you want to share it via a link, choose Unlisted. You can even schedule your video to go public at a later date. Once you’ve confirmed your visibility settings, click the blue “Save” button.

Step 5: Access the YouTube Video Editor

After saving your video, you’ll be taken back to your channel’s dashboard. Click on your video’s thumbnail and select “Editor” from the left-hand side menu to access YouTube’s video editor.

Step 6: Edit your video using YouTube’s video editor

YouTube’s video editor is a basic editing tool that allows you to perform a few actions on your Zoom recording. You can trim the video, add a blur effect, insert audio, or include an end screen. For minor edits to a Zoom meeting recording, we’ll focus on the first two options: trimming and adding a blur effect.

Trimming

  1. Select “Trim” on the lower half of the editor. A blue box will appear around your video clips.
  2. Choose the start of the segment you want to remove and click “Split” at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Drag the vertical blue bar to encompass the segment you want to remove.
  4. Click “Preview” at the bottom of the screen to review your trimmed video.
  5. If you’re satisfied, click the blue “Save” button to save your edits. Alternatively, click the Options icon (three vertical dots) and choose “Save As New” to create a copy of the edited video while preserving the original.

Adding a Blur Effect

  1. Click on the blue plus-sign icon next to the Add Blur icon on the lower left side of the video editor.
  2. A menu will appear, offering options for Face Blur or Custom Blur. Select Face Blur to automatically detect and blur faces in your video.
  3. YouTube will process the video to apply the blur effect. Once completed, preview the video to see the result.
  4. Click the blue “Save” button to save your changes or choose “Save As New” from the Options menu to create a copy with the blur effect.

Follow the prompts to save the edited Zoom recording to your computer.
