How to Enjoy Halo Infinite Split-Screen Fun

The timeless Halo franchise has always prioritized split-screen gameplay. Since its inception, almost every game in the series has allowed two or more players to team up against each other, compete with other players, or battle AI-controlled aliens in the campaign. However, Halo 5 disappointed its loyal fan base by removing split-screen functionality entirely, leaving many wondering if the latest installment, Halo Infinite, followed suit.

Released in two phases, starting with multiplayer and followed by the campaign, Halo Infinite has been gradually reintroducing beloved features from past games. While there are still more exciting updates on the horizon for this iconic first-person shooter title, including Forge, we already know that split-screen is included and functional. However, it may not be as extensive or fully-featured as in classic Halo titles, at least not yet. If you’re yearning to experience old-school Halo with a friend by your side, just like in the good old days, here’s how to set up split-screen in Halo Infinite.

How to Play Halo Infinite Split-Screen Multiplayer

Let’s start with what many people are eager to do, especially since the multiplayer section of Halo Infinite is free to play and easily accessible.

Step 1: Load up Halo Infinite on your preferred console while logged into your Xbox account.

Step 2: Head to the Multiplayer menu and activate your second controller.

Step 3: Press the Menu button on the second controller.

Step 4: Sign in to a different Xbox account with the second controller. It’s important to note that guest accounts cannot engage in online multiplayer in Halo Infinite.

Step 5: If you’re playing on an Xbox Series X or S, you can repeat this process to have a total of four players on a single console. On Xbox One systems, only two players can join. Additionally, regardless of the console used, the Big Team Battle mode only supports two players in split-screen.

Step 6: Select your preferred game type and start searching for a match.

Can You Enjoy Split-Screen Co-op?

Currently, the answer is no. Halo Infinite has postponed the release of campaign co-op until later in 2022, initially launching with online co-op only. There has been no confirmation regarding when local, split-screen co-op will be added.

Can You Play Split-Screen Multiplayer on PC?

Unfortunately, the answer remains negative. Although Halo Infinite is fully playable on PCs and supports controllers, you can only log in using a single Xbox account. This means that adding a second account for split-screen play is not possible. As of now, there have been no indications from 343 Industries that this feature will ever be introduced to the PC platform.

Halo Infinite is best enjoyed with friends, and while playing online is fantastic, there’s an undeniable charm in sitting side by side with your teammates. Halo’s foundation was built upon bringing people together to play, and we’re grateful that Halo Infinite continues to honor that tradition in some capacity.
