How to Generate AI Images with Midjourney

The world of AI-generated artwork is now at our fingertips, with countless enthusiasts seeking to create the perfect prompts that lead to the creation of awe-inspiring images. If this sounds like a thrilling endeavor to you, then Midjourney is a tool you need to try. This popular AI tool allows you to bring dreamlike landscapes and subjects to life with just a few carefully chosen words.

Getting Started with Midjourney

Step 1: First things first, make sure you have a Discord login. Midjourney operates entirely on Discord, so having an account is essential. If you haven’t signed up for Discord yet, don’t worry, it’s free!

Step 2: Visit the Midjourney website and select “Join the beta” to gain access. This will automatically take you to a Discord invite.

Step 4: Your Discord app will open, and on the left menu, select the ship-like Midjourney icon.

Step 6: Now, you’re ready to unleash your creativity with AI art. However, keep in mind that the free trial only provides you with a limited number of prompt options (approximately 25 free images). To continue enjoying Midjourney beyond this limit, you’ll need to purchase a full membership. If you prefer not to spend any money, take your time to think about what you want to create on Midjourney. You can also type “/help” to access a list of helpful tips.

Step 7: When you’re prepared, type “/imagine” in the Discord chat for your chosen Newcomer room. This will open a prompt field where you can describe your desired image. The more precise and detailed your description, the better the AI will understand your vision. Feel free to specify any particular style or elements you want in your image. Remember to adhere to the terms of conduct, but as long as you keep things clean, there’s nothing to worry about.

Once you’ve completed your description, hit Enter to send your prompt.

Step 8: Give Midjourney a moment to generate your images. Typically, the AI will create several different versions based on your description. At this point, you have various options to explore.

Scroll down below the images, and you’ll find sets of U and V buttons labeled 1 through 4. Each number corresponds to a different image created by Midjourney. By selecting U, you can upscale a specific image to a larger, more detailed version. Selecting V will generate a brand-new image based on the current image you’ve chosen. Additionally, there’s a refresh button that allows you to request a fresh set of images. Keep in mind that each choice you make will use up some of your available free prompts, so only proceed if you’re sure about your decision.

Step 9: Should you come across an image you love and decide to upscale it by choosing U, a new set of options will appear. You can make variations of that image, upscale it to the maximum resolution before downloading, or even opt for a light upscale redo if it doesn’t quite meet your expectations. The choice is yours.
