Pokémon is an RPG at its core. While trainers don’t actively participate in battles, the game revolves around leveling up your team to overcome increasingly challenging obstacles. Just like in any RPG, leveling up is achieved by earning experience points, or EXP. Not only does earning EXP improve your Pokémon’s stats, but it is also essential for their evolution.
EXP can be acquired through various methods, each rewarding different amounts. For trainers who aim to reach the maximum level as quickly as possible, EXP farming becomes necessary. Luckily, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet offer some highly effective ways to farm EXP rapidly if you know the right strategies. However, it’s important to note that some of these methods aren’t designed to be farmed, so understanding the techniques is crucial. Here are the fastest ways to farm EXP in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Farming EXP from Chansey and Blissey
Chansey and Blissey have always been known as prime sources of EXP in the Pokémon series, and this holds true in Scarlet and Violet. However, encountering them can be quite challenging as they are rare. The good news is that there is a way to increase your chances of encountering them. Here’s how:
Step 1: Visit any Artisan Bakery.
Step 2: Purchase ham, pickles, mustard, and mayonnaise for Ham Sandwiches. Alternatively, buy rice, jalapeno, tomato, curry powder, and mayonnaise for Ultra Curry-and-Rice-Style Sandwiches.
Step 3: Travel to one of Chansey or Blissey’s habitat locations found in your Pokédex.
Step 4: Set up a picnic.
Step 5: Prepare the sandwich using the available ingredients to boost your encounter rate with Normal-type Pokémon.
Step 6: This will significantly increase the number of Chansey or Blissey spawns for 30 minutes.
Step 7: Engage in regular battles with them for full EXP gain or use the Let’s Go mode to have your Pokémon automatically battle them. The second method is faster and easier but grants slightly less EXP per fight.
EXP Farming with Let’s Go Mode
This form of EXP farming becomes available after defeating Team Star’s Fighting Crew base and is by far the easiest way to earn EXP in the game. With the Let’s Go mechanic, you can passively accumulate EXP. Here’s how:
Step 1: Defeat Team Star’s Fighting Crew base.
Step 2: Have a strong Grass or Electric-type Pokémon.
Step 3: Go to the crater near Fury Falls.
Step 4: This area is populated with level 50 Golducks and Dratini.
Step 5: Activate Let’s Go mode and send out your Grass or Electric-type Pokémon.
Step 6: Sit back, relax, and watch as your Pokémon accumulates EXP effortlessly.
Farming EXP Candy from Terra Raid Battles
EXP Candy is the fastest way to level up quickly. However, these candies are not easily obtainable most of the time. There are five types of EXP Candy: XS, S, M, L, and XL, which grant 100, 800, 3,000, 10,000, and 30,000 EXP respectively when used. The new Terra Raid Battles in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet provide a reliable method to farm EXP Candy. Each raid has a star rating ranging from one to five, with five being the most challenging. The higher the raid rating, the better the EXP Candy reward.
After beating all the gym leaders and the Elite Four, you can unlock six-star level Terra Raids.
Step 1: Locate Tera Crystals on the map. They are marked with star-shaped icons.
Step 2: Interact with the Tera Crystal to initiate a Tera Raid Battle. Ensure you check the Pokémon type you will be facing and build your team accordingly.
Step 3: Choose to team up with others or play alone with AI companions.
Step 4: Each Tera Raid can only be completed once per day, and the available raids change daily. Adjusting your Switch’s internal clock allows you to grind them as much as you want.
By following these strategies, you’ll be able to level up your Pokémon quickly and efficiently in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
