With a vast selection of over 400 cars to unlock, Gran Turismo 7 offers a diverse range of options for players. From iconic brands like Ford and Ferrari to renowned models such as Mustang, Toyota, and McLaren, you can embody various driving styles. However, each car is assigned a specific Performance Point (PP) value, which directly impacts its speed and maneuverability. Lower PP values result in slower and less agile cars, while higher PP values offer enhanced speed and maneuverability.
It’s important to note that certain cars have limitations in terms of their maximum attainable PP, while others have a minimum PP requirement. While we may dream of transforming a Fiat 500 into a Formula 1 McLaren, this feat remains beyond our reach. To succeed in races and emerge victorious, it is crucial to effectively raise and lower PP in Gran Turismo 7. But how can this be achieved, and can it be done on the fly?
How to Increase PP in Gran Turismo 7
To enhance your car’s speed, improve cornering capabilities, and secure victories in Gran Turismo 7, you need to raise your car’s PP. Let’s take the example of a recently unlocked Dodge Challenger, earned after completing menu book 25 and winning the European Championship. With a PP of 463, the Challenger is decent but not sufficient for higher-level races. Despite having a myriad of customized cars at our disposal, who can resist the allure of classic American muscle? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to increase your PP in Gran Turismo 7.
Step 1: Visit the tuning shop located at the bottom of your overworld map. Here, you’ll find five different part tiers to choose from: Sport, Club Sports, Semi-Racing, Racing, and Extreme. Unlock additional tuning tiers by increasing your driver level in Gran Turismo 7.

Step 2: Purchase weight reduction upgrades to significantly increase your PP. However, it’s important to note that these upgrades must be purchased sequentially, progressing from stage one to four. There is no stage five. Instead, under the Extreme tab, you have the option to purchase a new body that restores your weight modifications to the factory default. The new body comes with a hefty price tag, so exercise caution when applying weight reductions initially.
Step 3: Invest in new tires to make a substantial leap in PP. The options include Sports, Racing, and Extreme tires, with soft racing tires being the most optimal choice. By equipping these soft racing tires on our Challenger, we witnessed a significant increase in PP from 463 to 558. However, it’s worth noting that these tires come with a cost of 38,000 credits.
Step 4: Purchase upgrades that boost your car’s horsepower. Consider acquiring enhancements such as Engine Balance Tuning from the Racing tier or the High Lift Cam Shaft from the Club Sports tier. An example is the Low-End Torque Supercharger, which elevated our Challenger’s horsepower from 425 to 575 with just one upgrade!
Step 5: When uncertain about the effects of a specific upgrade, consult Rupert for guidance. By clicking on any part and selecting “Learn More,” Rupert will provide insight into the functionality of each component and suggest potential combinations with other parts. For instance, when purchasing the Supercharger, Rupert recommended pairing it with a Racing Intercooler for optimal results. Following his advice, we managed to increase our horsepower to 593.
Step 6: Explore alternative parts to assess how they may impact your car’s performance. As a general rule, any modification that doesn’t drastically affect your PP in the tuning shop can be equipped or unequipped via the car settings menu before each race. We recommend investing in a Fully Customizable Suspension, allowing you to adjust your car’s height and fine-tune other suspension settings. Lower cars excel in tight turns.
How to Decrease PP in Gran Turismo 7
After fine-tuning our Challenger, we successfully raised its PP from 463 and 425 horsepower to 633 PP and 734 horsepower. However, we may have inadvertently exceeded the upgrade limit, rendering our Challenger ineligible for certain races. So, how can you reduce PP in Gran Turismo 7?
Step 1: The easiest way to lower PP on the fly is by changing your tires. Equipping our Challenger with soft racing tires leads to a PP of 633. However, switching to intermediate racing tires decreases the PP to 584, and opting for soft comfort tires further reduces it to 524.

Step 2: When your car slightly exceeds the PP limit for a particular race, fine-tuning your ride can shave off a few crucial PP points. Suppose the PP limit is set at 515, but our Challenger is stuck at 524 (most races have whole number PP limits like 500 or 650). By adjusting the car’s height and removing miscellaneous upgrades such as the Full Control Computer and Supercharger, we managed to reduce the Challenger’s PP to 510, enabling us to compete in the desired race. Continue fine-tuning until your car sits just below the limit. Remember to always make tuning adjustments in a different settings sheet to avoid losing your default or favorite settings.
Step 3: In desperate situations, you can visit the Tuning Shop and purchase a new body and engine. These upgrades will reset your PP to its default settings, erasing any previous modifications. However, be aware that this option is quite costly, often requiring hundreds of thousands of credits. Consequently, it may be more economical to purchase a new car that meets the necessary criteria and upgrade it accordingly to meet PP standards.
Befriend Multiple Cars in Gran Turismo 7
It’s important to note that many races in Gran Turismo 7 don’t impose PP limits. As long as your car meets the requirements in terms of make, model, drivetrain, and tire type, you are free to use any vehicle of your choice. Therefore, instead of heavily investing in a single car, it’s advisable to tune multiple cars from different manufacturers. By doing so, you ensure that you have a suitable car for every race, maximizing your chances of success.
