How to Play Mario Kart 8 Online with Friends

Multiplayer games have evolved from being limited to local gatherings. In the past, if you wanted to play with or against your friends, you had to gather at someone’s house or visit a local arcade. Although playing locally still has its charm, it’s not always feasible. Online multiplayer has become the norm for most modern multiplayer games, offering convenience and accessibility.

One game that stands out is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. It’s not only incredibly popular but also one of the best games to play with friends. This enjoyable racer is suitable for gamers of all ages and skill levels, and it continues to be a hit today, just as it was when it first launched on the WiiU. Thanks to online play, the competition never has to end. However, Nintendo’s online service for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn’t as intuitive as it is on other platforms, which can lead to some confusion about how to play with your friends. If you want to race against your friends online in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, here’s how to set it all up.

How to Play Mario Kart 8 Online with Friends

Playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe alone can be great fun, but eventually, racing against AI opponents might become monotonous. That’s when playing against your friends becomes a breath of fresh air, adding variety and challenge to your races. However, when your friends are far away, local multiplayer is no longer an option, and you need to go online to burn some rubber together. Follow these steps to get set up and play with friends online in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:

Step 1: Start Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and select “Online Play” from the main menu.

Step 2: Choose “Friends.”

Step 3: Select “Create Room” and pick your character.

Step 4: Your friends can now join your room. Unfortunately, you can’t directly invite them to join your room in the game itself.

To join a room set up by your friend, the process is quite simple:

Step 1: Follow the same steps as before until you reach the “Create Room” screen.

Step 2: Under the “Friends” tab, any friend currently in a lobby will have a checkered flag icon next to their name.

Step 3: Select the friend you want to join and hit “Join.”

In addition to regular races and cups, you can also host tournaments online with your friends. The process is similar to creating a lobby, but for tournaments, you’ll need to provide a code for your friends to join.

Remember, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is all about the joy of racing and competing with your friends, so get ready to rev up those engines and have a blast!
