How to Play Minecraft for Free

Although many popular games today are free-to-play, it may come as a surprise that Minecraft, the best-selling game of all time, is not one of them. While the price of Minecraft varies depending on your chosen platform, it will always require a monetary investment to play this hit title. However, there are options to play Minecraft for free, such as utilizing a limited-time trial of the game.

Take Advantage of the Minecraft Demo

Before purchasing Minecraft, it’s a smart idea to make use of the available demo to assess if the game is right for you. This demo, however, is not accessible on every system and has certain limitations. Additionally, there is a way to access the free 2009 version of Minecraft, if you don’t mind being a decade behind the times.

If you wish to test Minecraft on your computer, simply create a new account and download the game from the official website. This grants you access to the full version of Minecraft, but it is limited to “five in-game days.” A day in Minecraft lasts approximately 20 minutes, giving you about an hour and a half to decide if the game suits your preferences. This demo also serves as a way to check if your older laptop can handle the game’s procedurally generated worlds and expansive landscapes.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Minecraft is included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. If you’re already a subscriber, you can install the full version of Minecraft without any additional cost.
