Is Modern Warfare 2 Compatible Across Different Platforms?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is currently one of the most popular first-person shooters. With multiplayer being a significant aspect of the game, you might be curious about its cross-platform play capabilities, supported platforms, and how cross-progression functions.

Does Modern Warfare II Support Crossplay?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II indeed supports crossplay on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC (via Steam and Battle.net). This means that regardless of the platform you’re using, you can play with other players on different systems or devices. The game utilizes Activision IDs to track accounts, allowing for this cross-platform compatibility. However, you will need to create an Activision account to access the game.

Cross-play is enabled by default, and it is advisable to keep it enabled to minimize wait times.

Can Crossplay Be Disabled?

While you do have the option to disable crossplay, it’s important to note that this may result in longer wait times. To disable crossplay, navigate to Options and go to the Account and network submenu. Here, you’ll find the crossplay slider. Simply switch it off to deactivate crossplay. Keep in mind that this change cannot be made while in a lobby or during a match.

Does Modern Warfare II Support Cross-Platform Progression?

Absolutely! You just need to log in using your Activision ID, and you will be able to resume your progress, regardless of whether you’re playing on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation. However, it’s worth mentioning that your settings won’t be saved to your account. Therefore, before diving into a match, make sure to manually adjust all your settings according to your preferences. Don’t make the mistake of starting a match without updating your settings first.

Does Modern Warfare II Have Input-Based Matchmaking?

Unfortunately, Modern Warfare II does not have the option for input-based matchmaking. This feature would match players based on their chosen control scheme: mouse and keyboard or controller. Despite the demand from players for input-based matchmaking, it hasn’t been implemented yet. This would have allowed users to pair with players using either a keyboard and mouse, a controller, or both.

Although this feature is currently not available in Modern Warfare II, there remains a possibility that developer Infinity Ward may add it in the future. In the meantime, if you prefer not to be matched with PC players using a mouse and keyboard, you will need to disable cross-platform play.
