Is The Sims 4 Available on Nintendo Switch?

First released more than eight years ago, The Sims 4 has recently become free-to-play on various platforms, attracting both new players and longtime fans back to the series. If you’re looking to embark on a virtual family adventure, experience the thrill of playing god over an entire town of Sims, or simply want a break from cozy village games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Stardew Valley, now is the perfect time to dive into The Sims 4.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping to play The Sims 4 on your Nintendo Switch, we have some disappointing news. Here’s what we know about the game’s availability on Nintendo’s popular handheld console.

Regrettably, The Sims 4 is not currently available on the Nintendo Switch, and it doesn’t seem like it will be coming anytime soon. Despite its immense popularity on other consoles, The Sims 4 has yet to make its way to the platform, despite persistent rumors of an upcoming port.

Given that EA, the developer of the game, has already started working on the next installment of The Sims, it’s unlikely that they have plans to release The Sims 4 on a new platform. If that were the case, it probably would’ve been announced alongside the game’s transition to free-to-play.

Nevertheless, EA continues to support The Sims 4 with new paid DLC content in the pipeline. This free-to-play version of The Sims 4 will be available on most platforms, including PC (via the EA app, Origin, and Steam), PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

EA and Maxis have recently announced that they are working on the next Sims game, currently codenamed Project Rene. However, the project is still in its early stages of development.

Lyndsay Pearson, VP of Franchise Creative for The Sims, stated, “This is the future of The Sims, built on a foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories.” Pearson emphasized the importance of staying true to the essence of The Sims while exploring innovative ways for Sims to think, behave, and collaborate on stories or creations with friends across various devices.

Although EA has not provided specific details about the platforms Project Rene will be available on, they have showcased footage of the game running on PC and mobile devices. The game is still years away from release, so a specific launch date or window has not been shared. But as EA continues the open development process, more information will be revealed in due course. Perhaps we’ll even see a brand-new Nintendo console by then!
