New Super Luigi U Deluxe: Discover Hidden Paths and Shortcuts

Nintendo’s latest 2D sidescroller, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, gets a second chance to shine on the Switch. In addition to the main game, the Switch port includes New Super Luigi U, an enhanced version of the DLC that offers a more challenging experience. Just like Mario’s adventure, Luigi’s levels are full of secrets, including hidden exits and world skips that have become staples of the Super Mario franchise for years.

Secret Exits and World Skips in New Super Luigi U

There are a total of 12 secret exits spread across the eight worlds in New Super Luigi U. Some of these exits unlock hidden levels, while others allow you to bypass entire sections or even entire worlds. Our guide will assist you in finding all the secret exits in New Super Luigi U, maximizing your enjoyment of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.

World 1: Acorn Plains

Crooked Cavern

At the far right of the cavern, where the last star coin is located, you’ll notice a red sign pointing to a warp pipe on the right. Instead of following the sign, ground pound it to reveal a hidden path. Follow the new signs into the warp pipe, and you’ll find the secret flag on the other side.

Discovering the secret exit unlocks a new level in Acorn Plains called “A Cheep Chomp Chase.” Completing this level grants you access to Soda Jungle (World 5).

World 2: Layer-Cake Desert

The Walls Have Eyes

Early in the level, you’ll come across three statues connected by narrow bridges. The statues on the right and left have palm trees, and each gap between them contains a question mark box. Drop off the right statue onto a platform and ground pound to reveal a secret area below. Enter the warp pipe to soar into the sky and reach the secret flag.

By uncovering this secret exit, you’ll unlock a hidden level in Layer-Cake Desert known as “A Slippery Rope Ladder.” Completing this level opens up the path to Soda Jungle.

World 3: Sparkling Waters

Haunted Cargo Hold

Instead of entering the pipe at the end of the level as directed by the arrow, swim through the water and pass through the gap between the steel fasteners. You’ll swim right through the wall and find a hidden pipe. The secret exit awaits you on the other side.

Unveiling the secret exit reveals a new level in Sparkling Waters called “A Beanstalk Jungle.” Completing this level creates a path to the Rock Candy Mines (World 6).

World 4: Frosted Glacier

Peek-a-Boo Ghost House

When you encounter the group of Boos circling through the air, carefully leap above them and wall jump into the gap above. Then, wall jump to the right to reach a hidden platform containing the second star coin. From there, run to the left and jump toward the ceiling to find another hidden area with a door. Pass through the door, and you’ll be out of the spooky house and in sight of the secret exit flag.

Discovering this secret exit unlocks a path to a hidden level in Frosted Glacier called “A Fliprus Floes.” Completing this level paves the way to Rock Candy Mines.

World 5: Soda Jungle

Dancing Blocks, Poison Swamp

This one is particularly challenging. At the end of a series of constantly dropping platforms made of boxes, you’ll spot a lone question mark box at the bottom of the last platform. Ground pound the box to activate a rounded question mark switch, which appears on an unfurling green vine to the right. Hit the switch to create a row of blocks below the vine. Run across the blocks and jump into the green warp pipe to reach the secret exit.

The secret exit creates a path on the map to Soda Jungle’s “Sumo Bro Bridge,” allowing you to skip a mid-castle, haunted house, and a few other levels.

Painted Pipeworks

When the finish line flag comes into view, you’ll notice a large blue pipe swaying above you in a long motion. Jump on that pipe and use it to enter the red pipe above, leading to the secret exit.

Discovering the secret exit opens up a path to Soda Jungle’s “Wiggler Floodlands.”

Deepsea Stone-Eyes

Instead of going down the pipe and into the water area from the starting room, jump onto the statue on the right side of the room. After a moment, the statue will start moving, revealing a false wall. Run through the room, and you’ll find the secret flag at the end.

The secret exit also creates a path to Soda Jungle’s “Wiggler Floodlands.”

Boo’s Favorite Haunt

When you reach the platform with the door, don’t open it and exit the level as usual. Instead, jump further to the right (the squirrel suit comes in handy) to reach a hidden platform holding the third star coin and another door. There’s also a delightful portrait of Luigi on the wall. The door leads to the secret exit.

Finding the secret exit unlocks a hidden level in Soda Jungle called “A Para-Beetle Parade.” Complete this level to create a path to the Meringue Clouds (World 7).

World 6: Rock Candy Mines

Rising Piranhas

In the middle of the level, you’ll encounter a large Piranha Plant on a moving platform. Use the shell from the Koopa Troopa in the previous area to defeat it. Jump across to the area with three question mark blocks. The top block contains an Acorn Mushroom. Grab it and jump onto the now empty platform. Jump and press R to flutter on top of the ceiling above the question mark blocks. This hidden area will lead you to the secret exit.

The secret exit creates a new railway loop that holds a red switch, enabling you to reach the back entrance of Roy’s Ironclad Castle.

Smashing-Stone Tower

Whenever you come across an area with blocks covering the ceiling, wait for the fireballs to create holes between the blocks. Swiftly jump on top of the blocks and leap to the right side, passing through a fake wall and entering a warp pipe that guides you to the secret exit.

The concealed exit opens up the mystical level in Peach’s Castle called “Firefall Rising.”

World 7: Meringue Clouds

Vanishing Ghost House

When you notice that the moving platform is positioned symmetrically, jump down to the right and land on a small platform containing a door. Walk through the door to access the secret passageway. Alternatively, you can ride the platform to the end and jump down to the left, where the standard exit door is located.

The secret exit creates a rainbow trail that leads directly to Ludwig’s Block-Press Castle.

World 8: Peach’s Castle

Magma Moat

Whenever you come across an area with blocks covering the ceiling, wait for the fireballs to create holes between the blocks. Swiftly jump on top of the blocks and leap to the right side, passing through a fake wall and entering a warp pipe that guides you to the secret exit.

The concealed exit opens up the mystical level in Peach’s Castle called “Firefall Rising.”
