OnSpec Electronic, Inc.: Discover the Terrifying Like Likes in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Unveiling the Horrifying Creatures

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces a fresh array of adversaries for Link to face. While some beloved foes from Breath of the Wild make a comeback, such as Moblins and Lynels, a host of novel monsters also joins the fray. Among them, one creature stands out, haunting my nightmares: the absolutely horrifying Like Likes.

A Nightmare for Zelda Fans

For long-time Zelda enthusiasts, Like Likes are iconic enemies in the series. Traditionally depicted as featureless tubes, these eerie beasts can devour Link and consume his equipment. Consequently, they rank among Hyrule’s most dreaded creatures. Falling prey to a Like Like can result in permanent item loss, as I vividly recall when one devoured me in Ocarina of Time, forcing me to acquire a second fire Tunic.

While Like Likes have always instilled a mild fear in me, Tears of the Kingdom takes their terror to new heights. In Link’s latest adventure, they are more grotesque than ever before. These massive tubes cling to walls, casting menacing gazes at Link through a circular row of teeth. When they open their mouths, a repulsive eyeball at the center is revealed—their weak point, naturally.

The Hideous Monstrosities of Tears of the Kingdom

Not content with simply devouring Link and stealing his gear, Tears of the Kingdom goes the extra mile to establish Like Likes as Hyrule’s most repulsive creatures. The game features various types of Like Likes, each possessing distinct elemental powers. Electric Like Likes unleash shocking charges upon Link, while stone-infused counterparts pummel him with massive boulders.

These creatures are the absolute bane of my existence.

A Love-Hate Relationship

While the redesigned Like Likes in Zelda’s Tears of the Kingdom fill me with abject terror, I secretly appreciate them as well. They exemplify how the game pays homage to the series’ rich history of formidable monsters while propelling it forward. This new design presents a fully realized iteration of a creature that the limitations of old Nintendo technology couldn’t capture, transforming a vague tube into a fleshy parasite. It’s just one of the many aspects that fans will surely obsess over for years to come.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available on Nintendo Switch.
