The Resident Evil franchise has always had a peculiar relationship with multiplayer features throughout its various iterations. On one hand, we have the cooperative modes found in Resident Evil 5 and 6, which many argue were the saving grace of those games. On the other hand, there are more experimental and competitive titles like Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City and the universally despised Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps.
Despite never quite striking the right balance between horror and multiplayer, Capcom went ahead and announced Resident Evil: Re:Verse as a multiplayer component for, and also a standalone product from, Resident Evil: Village.
However, as fate would have it, Resident Evil: Re:Verse missed its intended launch date alongside Village. It fell off the radar for years after Village’s release, making it quite understandable for most people to have forgotten what this game was meant to be.
But fear not! Grab your herbs and organize your attache case, because we’re about to delve deep into everything there is to know about Resident Evil: Re:Verse.

After enduring multiple delays and an extended period of silence, the wait is finally over. Resident Evil: Re:Verse will grace our screens on October 28, 2022.
Platforms

As Resident Evil: Re:Verse is intrinsically linked to Village, you will need to own a copy of the latter in order to partake in this multiplayer mode. Consequently, Resident Evil: Re:Verse will only be available on the platforms where Village can be played, which includes the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Capcom does advise that if you opt to play on either the PS5 or Xbox Series X, you will be playing the previous generation version of the game, which might give some cause for concern.
Trailers
For some inexplicable reason, the sole official trailer we’ve had for Resident Evil: Re:Verse was a brief teaser released back in 2021. In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of Leon sprinting through the RCPD until he crosses paths with Claire. The two share a momentary stare before a gunshot interrupts the scene.
Subsequently, a montage showcases the game in action, featuring a multitude of familiar characters such as Jill, Chris, Ada, H.U.N.K, and even the Nemesis and Jack Baker.
It seems that the game will be purely multiplayer, with no canonical storyline or any significant narrative elements.
Gameplay

Resident Evil: Re:Verse will adopt a third-person deathmatch format, accommodating up to five players. You will select one of the aforementioned characters, excluding Nemesis and Jack, and navigate through a map, hunting down other players and bioweapons while collecting superior weapons, items, and virus capsules. When you or another player succumbs to death, you will transform into one of the bioweapons, depending on the number of vials you possessed prior to demise. The more vials you had, the more potent a bioweapon you become.
Each kill you achieve, whether in human form or as a bioweapon, contributes to your score. The player with the highest score at the end of each five-minute round emerges victorious.
Thus far, the only showcased map has been the RCPD. However, it is reasonable to expect other iconic locations to be included as well, such as the Spencer Mansion, Baker Estate, or perhaps even the village from Resident Evil 4.
Multiplayer

Naturally, Resident Evil: Re:Verse is exclusively a multiplayer experience. As previously mentioned, the game accommodates up to five players, although it remains unclear whether you can play with fewer than five or if additional modes, such as team or survival-based gameplay, will be available.

Curiously, you cannot acquire Resident Evil: Re:Verse independently of Village—at least, not yet. As it stands, owning Village is a prerequisite for accessing this game. Fortunately, Village is an outstanding game in its own right, with upcoming DLC to further enhance the experience, making it a worthwhile investment.
