The Top Weapons in Destiny 2 and Where to Find Them

Destiny 2 is all about discovering new and improved firearms scattered across the solar system and various activities. The game offers an array of impressive weapons, from Legendary guns found everywhere and in the Crucible, to highly sought-after Exotics obtained through special drops or specific quests. Some weapons can only be acquired from the game’s six-person Leviathan raid, Raid Lairs, or by completing the challenging Trials of the Nine multiplayer tournament. With the release of Beyond Light, Destiny 2’s massive expansion pack, players now have even more weapons at their disposal. From unique Exotics with powerful perks to unassuming yet exceptional Legendary guns, here are the finest weapons in Destiny 2.

The Lament

The Lament can be obtained by completing the ‘The Lost Lament’ quest given by Banshee-44 in The Tower. While this quest may require some time, it is relatively easy to complete. The steps include killing 100 Vex with swords, exploring ruins, and finding hidden Dead Exos on Europa.

The Lament is the second-best sword in the game, just a step behind the Falling Guillotine. With the highest DPS, The Lament is perfect for dealing massive amounts of damage to Elite and Boss enemies. One of the best advantages of using a sword in Destiny is the full 3rd person view it provides. The Lament’s Exotic Perk allows you to ‘Rev the blade’ to stack damage and bypass shields.

No Time to Explain

To obtain this Exotic Pulse Rifle, players must complete the Beyond Light campaign and speak with the Exo Stranger at the very end. You’ll be rewarded with No Time To Explain, along with a final quest entitled ‘Soon.’ Completing this quest will unlock the No Time to Explain Catalyst and further enhance the weapon.

Players may remember this weapon from the original Destiny, where it had similar characteristics. In Destiny 2, it now has the Rewind Again stack. After reaching 10 stacks, a portal opens, and No Time to Explain starts firing ammo from a different dimension.

This Exotic Sniper Rifle can be obtained as a random drop or reward when completing Empire Hunts, which were introduced in Destiny 2: Beyond Light. Before unlocking the ability to participate in Empire Hunts, players must progress through the Beyond Light story until the Exo Stranger assigns the quest ‘A Hard Rain Falls.’ After completing this quest, players can visit Variks and start grinding away at his Sabotage Quests. These quests require Herealways Pieces, a new in-game currency in Beyond Light that can be purchased with Beyond Light’s in-game currency, to participate in Empire Hunts. The cost of participating in these hunts can be reduced by purchasing Empire Hunt Perks from Variks.

Cloudstrike shines in PvE, creating a lightning storm at the point of impact with consecutive headshots, dealing AoE damage to any enemies in range. This strategy is particularly effective against elite enemies, providing focused sniper fire. It can also take down groups of weaker enemies with one well-placed shot. While the lightning storm is deadly in PvP, it has a low chance of killing multiple enemies. Consequently, Cloudstrike is best suited for PvE missions.

Friction Fire

Friction Fire is a Legendary Sub-Machine Gun that can be unlocked by completing Wrathborn hunts for Crow. To do this, players need to charge their Cryptolith Lure and customize it in the menu. By selecting the desired hunt, players can see the potential rewards. The most suitable Lure mod/buff should be chosen based on the hunt. Once prepared, players will receive a mission icon on either The Tangled Shore (Fallen hunt) or in The Dreaming City (Hive hunt). Another way to unlock Friction Fire is by leveling up Crow’s faction. Completing Wrathborn Hunts also rewards players with Recon Data, which can be turned in to Crow.

Friction Fire has a high rate of fire and minimal recoil. The precision frame ensures the recoil pattern remains vertical and predictable, allowing for easier compensation. Friction Fire boasts high DPS against elite enemies and is deadly when paired with a shotgun or sniper rifle in the Crucible, depending on personal playstyle.

MIDA Multi-Tool

Players can obtain this Destiny gun after completing the Exotic quest in the Earth’s EDZ, once the series of Quest missions unlock after the main story campaign is complete. The MIDA Multi-Tool is a scout rifle designed for quick movement and quick reactions. It deals significant damage when landing headshots, whether roaming planets or engaging other players in the Crucible.

The MIDA Multi-Tool offers two primary benefits: your radar remains active while aiming down sights, allowing you to detect incoming threats from different directions. Additionally, it has a perk that increases movement speed when equipped and reloads super fast after scoring a precision kill. This weapon is exceptional for dealing high damage from a distance with hit-and-run attacks, allowing you to escape danger that would catch you off guard.

Rat King

Unlocking this Exotic weapon can be a challenge since you need a friend who is also completing the Rat King quest or already has the gun to receive it. The quest becomes available after completing the Questline on Titan once the story unlocks. It consists of a series of riddles, and the main objective is to complete Patrols, Public Events, Crucible matches, and the Nightfall with another player using Rat King. For the Nightfall, you must finish it with five minutes or more remaining on the timer.

Rat King is a highly effective sidearm with a quick firing rate and decent stability. Getting a kill with it and hitting the reload button temporarily renders you invisible, which is perfect for emergencies, especially in the Leviathan raid, where you encounter swarms of tough enemies. The best perk, however, is that the more players on your team equipped with Rat King, the stronger it becomes when you stick together. Therefore, having three (or even six in the raid) Fireteam members with Rat King significantly increases its effectiveness. It is definitely worth the effort to unlock this weapon.
