Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: Upgrading and Boosting Zonai Battery Performance

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, upgrading your health and stamina is not the only concern. This time, Link also needs to enhance the power of his batteries, which serve as the energy source for all electronic Zonai gadgets. Think of batteries as digital stamina: the more batteries Link has, the longer he can operate vehicles and mechanical devices. By the end of Link’s adventure, he can obtain a total of eight Zonai batteries, each consisting of three segments.

Acquiring Crystallized Charges

To begin the process of upgrading batteries, the first step is to collect Crystallized Charges. This unique currency can only be found in the underground area, although there are several ways to obtain it. The primary method involves collecting Zonaite and trading it with Forge Construct vendors. Zonaite can be obtained by smashing rocks in the underground or defeating certain enemies. Don’t overlook any rocks you encounter and be sure to stock up on Zonaite.

There are a couple of vendors you can easily warp to. Personally, I find the one south of the map, adjacent to the Great Abandoned Central Mine warp point, to be the most convenient.

These vendors offer two types of charges. A single Crystallized Charge costs three chunks of Zonaite. Additionally, you can purchase a Large Crystallized Charge for three pieces of Large Zonaite, a rarer resource obtained while mining rocks. The larger charges are worth 20 units, significantly speeding up the upgrade process. While vendors have a limited stock of charges, they restock frequently, so there’s no need to worry about finding another shop.

Apart from vendors, you may occasionally discover charges in treasure chests or receive them as rewards for certain quests in the underground. If you’re looking to accumulate charges quickly, I recommend focusing on the side adventure involving Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan. This multi-step quest provides multiple items, each worth 100 charges. Additionally, ensure that you loot chests in Yiga Clan bases as they often contain Large Crystallized Charges.

Upgrading the Zonai Battery

Once you have accumulated a substantial amount of charges, head to the Crystal Refinery on Great Sky Island. Utilize the Nachoyah Shrine warp point to reach the construct responsible for upgrading the battery station.

For every 100 charges you possess, the construct will produce an Energy Well, adding another segment to your battery. The construct is also capable of producing multiple energy wells simultaneously, allowing for faster trade-offs compared to health and stamina upgrades.

Since you begin the game with a full battery, you’ll need to upgrade it approximately 20 times to obtain a total of eight full batteries. If you focus on this task, you can complete it swiftly, as there are plenty of other activities to engage in. Be on the lookout for mining spots filled with rocks, leaving no stone unturned. With eight batteries at your disposal, you can travel vast distances without worrying about running out of power.
