Warzone 2.0 Season 2: Exciting Updates, Ashika Island, and Resurgence Mode

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is ready to kick off its second season. While Activision hasn’t revealed all the details of the upcoming update, they have dropped a few announcements to generate excitement. Following the trend of live-service games, Call of Duty operates on a seasonal system, with significant content additions accompanying each update.

Season 2 is gearing up for launch after a brief delay. For many fans, this upcoming season is crucial because the response to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 has been lukewarm so far.

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0.

Season 2 Release Date

Initially, Season 2 was set to launch on February 1, 2023, according to the in-game battle pass countdown timer. However, due to player feedback and numerous bugs at launch, Activision made the decision to delay the season to February 15, 2023.

This announcement was made on Twitter, softening the blow of the delay. Activision also hinted at what players can expect from Season 2.

Season 2 Features

With each new season, Call of Duty introduces new weapons, multiplayer maps, Operators, game modes, and significant gameplay changes. Although Activision hasn’t shared a specific roadmap yet, they have confirmed that a host of exciting features are on the way.

One confirmed addition is the return of 1v1 Gulags, which were popular in the original Warzone. In Warzone 2.0, the base Gulag is designed for 2v2, which didn’t sit well with players. Additionally, the overpowered Bird’s Eye Perk has been temporarily removed and will likely make a comeback during Season 2 when customizable Perk Packages are introduced.

Activision will also be revamping the cash pool, allowing players to apply armor plates while moving faster, and implementing a new looting system. The new looting system mirrors the first Warzone, with items dropping directly onto the ground instead of being accessed through a menu. To prevent players from hoarding Self-Revive Kits, Medium and Large Backpacks will be removed entirely.

DMZ will receive enemy tuning, new spawning locations, adjustable mission difficulty, and new areas to explore. Activision has also acknowledged the need for crash fixes, although they haven’t specified the exact issues being prioritized. DMZ crashes have been a common occurrence, resulting in players losing their items.

In addition to these improvements, there have been leaks suggesting the introduction of new weapons, including a crossbow and the Vepr-12 shotgun. Activision is actively listening to the community’s feedback and will implement new features based on player input. We’ll keep updating this article as more information about Season 2 becomes available.

Arguably the most significant feature of Season 2 is the introduction of the new Ashika Island. This small-scale Resurgence map will be added during Season 2. Ashika Island will offer intense battles in a more condensed space, akin to Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island.

High Moon Studios, the same team behind Fortune’s Keep, is responsible for creating Ashika Island, which bodes well for its reception. In a recent blog post, Activision delved into the details of Ashika Island, highlighting its seven unique locations. One of the main Points of Interest (POIs) is Tsuki Castle, based on the beloved Castle map from previous games. Ashika Island will be playable in both Battle Royale and DMZ, providing even more excitement for players. To the delight of fans, Ashika Island will also feature other familiar POIs, including Shipment in the form of “Containers.”
